Mise-en-scene/ props!

    For my project, props will be very important. I want to show the contrast between the two sisters, while also showing the contrast of who they are now vs. who they were when they were little. The best way I thought to do this was through the stuff they have on each side of the bathroom. This could be makeup or a hairbrush or just random things they've collected. This will really help to show their individual personalities. The flashbacks will have the same things, just a younger version of them. So they will have makeup but it will be for little kids and it will look very similar to each other.

Present day props:

 

    Makayla is unorganized and lives in a little bit of a mess, so the objects she has will reflect that personality. She has a darker color scheme then Kimberley has so this will show in the makeup that she has out. She might also have some school notes propped up showing that school has become the most important thing in her life, even more important than her relationship with her sister. 

    Kimberley's side of will be organized and clean. It will have multiple skincare products, and the makeup she has will be a lighter color scheme. She can also have some sports related items, because realistically she would be getting ready for her meets, games, and competitions in that space. 

Flashback props:

    The props during the flashback scenes should look similar to show the connection the girls have during this time in their lives, but different enough so the audience can tell this isn't the same clip used twice. Like I mentioned in a previous post, these props are going to be things that could be found on a little girl's sink. These flashbacks take place in the 2010's so all of the items used need to either look like they're from 2015-2017, or actually be from then. The audience should feel almost nostalgic for that time period when they watch this.

Conclusions:

    I want these props to indicate the sister's different personalities and I think I was able to find some that did just that. Kimberley's things are all in the right space and when filming I will have them organized, but Makayla's things are all over the place and indicates how scattered her brain is. The props from when they are younger are all in the same picture because I wanted to show how the audience would get the same tone for all the props, but they are being stored separated so I know which props I want for each sister. With these props i could show how much each girl has changed over the years as well as how their relationship has changed. These are the props I have in mind at the moment, but when filming I decide I don't like how one looks I might remove it from the opening.
